Great friends push you to be your best self. Yesterday I got caught by a friend talking about this blog but I hadn’t done anything here in a while even though I’ve been writing every day. She asked,”why not?” “Why not?” Huh, well guess I don’t really have a good reason. Because I found myself wanting to perfect everything first? Which isn’t that exactly the point of inaction I was.
My goal here on my personal website is to share progress as it happens. “Document. Not Create.” as Gary V says. Lately it’s fallen to the wayside as my priorities have been being here in MN helping friends with their baby and prepping for the to-be-newborn. It didn’t seem like I had much to report because I wasn’t focusing as much time on my business while here but that’s not.
Yesterday I signed up for a Coursera course called Divide and Conquer, Sorting and Searching, and Randomized Algorithms. This is my weakest link in the technical interview process so learning it now is as much about building my self confidence as it is being a better developer. So far in the first part of the lecture I had that sense of panic, “Oh god I’ll never be able to understand.
Back from my travels, today is catching up day. It’s not discouraging as it used to be to come back to a full inbox of emails. I do what I do so that I can have that time with family. These next few months are going to be head down focused on work and making new connections in my new city. Hello, LA!
An observation from my time tracking process: I feel like I don’t have enough time to get everything done. I try to take breaks as needed but during those breaks often end up doing something distracting. Either I break for too long and waste more time or worse, I find myself unfocused and anxious about the work that has yet to be done. This anxiety can push me to get.
